Comet C2011L4 PanSTARRS

Mixed reports have been coming in from members who were trying to see comet C2011 L4 PanSTARRS on Wednesday March 13th.

Much of the county had fairly clear evening skies, though some low cloud and haze on the western horizon made things difficult.

Update: Picture from Ian Sibley taken at the SGL 8 astro-camp on 13th March.

Ian Davies reported:

I successfully observed comet PanSTARRS this evening – saw it in 10×50 binoculars, very low in the west. Couldn’t see it with the naked eye but was pretty good in the binoculars – tail clearly visible. Was lucky to see it, because about 5mins after I located it, a bank of cloud got in the way.

Rik McRae and Ian Sibley at the Stargazers Lounge astrocamp near Hereford reported seeing it:

A lovely view in the Pronto.

Ian Craw and Peter Cadogan spent a very cold time up on Cleeve Hill, but failed to see it in binoculars, possibly because of the clouds.

Callum Potter viewing from Bredon also reported failure to see it in binoculars, but did capture it on this image:
