Mercury
Unfortunately our editor has had a catastrophic computer failure and has lost the next edition of Mercury in its final stages of preparation. So there will be no edition this month.
Once he has his computer back from the menders, we will decide how we will proceed
- whether to issue it in December or cancel the issue, with the next coming out in January.
Annual Dinner
In this edition of Mercury we would normally have a note about the Annual Dinner, and the booking form.
Our annual dinner this year will be held at the Renaissance restaurant on Thursday 28th January. Full details are given in this notice which also contains a booking form. If you require further information please contact Rod Salisbury.
Forthcoming Events
Saturday 14th November - sees the
start of the Exhibition at the Corinium Museum, Cirencester. This runs until
Jan 16th so plenty of time. Having seen the preview, I think it is excellent, and
many thanks to all who have helped
prepare it.
Tuesday 17th November - Observing
evening at Bredon Cricket Club, if clear
Monday 23rd November - Outreach
evening at Kings School, Gloucester. Sorry I don't have much more details about
this at the moment, but if you could help out on this evening by bringing a
telescope along, please let me know.
Tuesday 24th November -
Observing evening at Bredon Cricket Club, if clear
Saturday 12th December - Our
Christmas Meeting - this is generally an open-house type of evening, so if any
members could give a short talk, or wish to show some observations, please
bring them along on the night. If you would like to give a short talk - please
let me and Mark know so we can sort out a programme for the evening.
Winter
Solstice Event at Stonehenge
There is to be an IYA winter solstice event at Stonehenge on December 16th to
19th. During each of the days local astronomical societies have been invited to
attend with telescopes to show those attending some of the sights of the night
sky between 17:30 and 18:30. If any members would like to take their telescope
down to the event for the viewing session, and to talk to the public during the
afternoon, please let me know. It would be nice if we could have a few members down
each day. The other societies will be Newbury, Wiltshire and the Hampshire Group.
On the Wednesday we have two places for the special access tour round the
stones to see the sunset. It might be possible to book additional places on the
same day, or the Thursday - though these would have to pay the fee of £15 per
person. The tours are booked up for the Friday and Saturday I believe. You
could still go for the standard visit round the stones during the day, though.
Details about the event at:

Please let me know as soon as possible if you would be available and on what
days so we can inform the organisers.
